Have you heard of the saying, "Every great journey starts with a first step"? The world's best athletes, achievers and thought leaders were all beginners at some point but got to the top of their fields because they kept moving forward, one step at a time.
Lately, I've been hearing stories of many newbie investors who get intimidated or flat out freeze in their tracks by the thought of many "unknowns" that lie ahead in their pursuit to start building their portfolio.
In this blog post, I'm going to share a personal experience and story in hopes that you will not only learn from but also relate to as you continue on your path to building wealth through real estate investing.
Starting off in the real investing world was no different for me than it is for any first time buyer today. It's an intimidating journey with many unfamiliar details along the way. Nevertheless, you must take action and continue moving forward, and in a minute you'll read why.
When I first realized the wealth-building opportunity in real estate investing as a realtor® many years ago, there were countless things. As a result, I figured it would be the perfect time to join a network or community of some sort to broaden my real estate investing knowledge. Shortly after, I joined Real Estate Investment Network (REIN). I remember being scared amidst so many experienced and knowledgeable investors who knew much more about real estate investing than I did. It was even a bit overwhelming at first since there were so many new concepts, strategies, fundamentals to learn.
As a result, I spent the first eight months without promoting that I was a realtor. Here i was, the "professional realtor", who's supposed to guide and educate investors as they purchase investment properties, but apparently, I was the newbie investor.
What I didn't seem to accept then is that everybody starts from the beginning. This is something everyone should fully understand and accept. Investors, athletes, coaches even REIN'S former president, Don R. Campbell, were all newbies at one point. Don't let age, ego or any other excuse stop you from asking for guidance or help to move forward in your pursuit. And when you acknowledge that there is going to be many unanswered questions at first, you can comfortably move forward at your own pace.
If you're interested in buying your first investment property, it all begins with taking that first step. Start with a book or join a real estate investing group in your area. RealEstate Riches - A Money Making Game Plan for the Canadian Investor was written for investors who are at the stage of purchasing their 1st - 7th property. In fact, if you decide to invest in yourself with Real Estate Riches, I'll include additional bonus training to get you started.
Now I’d love to hear from you!
How do you deal with the fear of not knowing enough and how do you manage to move forward?
What you have to say is important and may be the inspiration someone else needs to hear. Go ahead and share your experience in the comment section below.
